You usually don’t associate the word “brutal” with Ron Howard movies, but that’s apparently what we’re getting in August with Eden. Based on actual events, Eden follows a group of European settlers who come to Floreana Island in the Galapagos. Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby are a pair of Germans who believe bourgeois values are corroding society and are looking to return to nature. Daniel Brühl and Sydney Sweeney are settlers seeking to start a new life, and Ana De Armas is a wealthy, self-described baroness who wants to build a luxury hotel on the island. The group’s coexistence is fragile and eventually starts turning violent. The movie debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and is scheduled to open in theaters on August 22nd.
