Jurassic World: Rebirth is in theaters and is the seventh entry in the Jurassic franchise. Another dinosaur-based series began around the same time with Dinotopia, which had a TV miniseries released in 2002. Created by James Gurney, the Dinotopia series started in 1992 with the publication of the first book by Gurney. Notable for its incredibly gorgeous artwork, the story follows a father and his two sons who are shipwrecked and find themselves in the world of Dinotopia. In this hidden world, humans and dinosaurs live together in harmony. The series expanded with additional book sequels, video games, an animated film, and the 2002 miniseries, which aired as part of The Wonderful World of Disney over three consecutive nights. Wentworth Miller and Tyron Leitso play brothers David and Karl Scott, who are in a plane crash with their father and end up in Dinotopia. They meet Marion (Katie Carr), who guides them through the world, and Cyrus Crabb (David Thewlis), a deceitful dinosaur-hater searching for any way to leave Dinotopia. The miniseries was followed by a regular weekly TV series, which was set for 13 episodes, but poor ratings resulted in it only getting six episodes aired in the US. The entire season was aired in Europe and eventually released on DVD. You can watch Adventures in Dinotopia below, which cuts the original miniseries into a two-hour movie.
