The Fantastic Four have had a rough time in theaters, none more so than the 1994 movie that was never released. Produced by Roger Corman, the movie was set to release in May 1994, but all promotion was halted in January, and the cast received cease-and-desist orders not to discuss the film. According to Stan Lee, the movie was never intended for release and was only made so that producer Bernd Eichinger could retain the rights to the Fantastic Four. Eichinger and Corman dispute those claims, but either way, the cast was never told anything and was under the impression that the film would receive a wide release. You can get the whole behind-the-scenes story in the documentary Doomed that came out in 2015. The movie mostly followed the standard origin for the Fantastic Four. However, the reason for their radiation exposure is that a villain called The Jeweler stole a crucial gem from their spaceship. The cast of the 1994 film has cameos in Fantastic Four: First Steps, so you can see them there this weekend. You can also watch the entire movie below via Dailymotion.
