The Fantastic Four: First Steps gave the MCU its first major win of 2025 with a big opening, unseating Superman from the top spot.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps took in $117.6 million domestically over the weekend, which was a bit below some projections but still a huge debut. Even adjusted for inflation, that is by far the biggest debut for any Fantastic Four movie, topping the previous high mark of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, which opened to $58 million back in 2007. For the MCU, First Steps opening is between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Spider-Man: Homecoming, and it’s the first $100 million+ opening since Deadpool & Wolverine last year. The movie got a solid A- CinemaScore, which is the same as Superman. Worldwide, First Steps has grossed $216.7 million.
Superman dropped 57% from last weekend, taking in another $24.8 million and bringing its domestic total to $289.4 million. Considering the direct competition from Fantastic Four, that’s a pretty solid drop in its third weekend. Worldwide, it has surpassed half a billion, reaching $503.5 million.
Jurassic World: Rebirth continued to hold well, dropping 44% in its fourth week and earning another $13.2 million, bringing its domestic total to $301.7 million and its worldwide total to $719.8 million.
F1: The Movie and Smurfs rounded out the top 5, with the latter dropping 51% from last weekend’s opening, making another $5.4 million.
I Know What You Did Last Summer dropped 59% in its second weekend, which is not terrible considering its disappointing opening and middling reviews. It fell to 6th place with another $5.2 million and now has $23.6 million domestically.
Indian film Saiyaara jumped up into the top 10 with an 80% increase, making $1.4 million despite losing over 2,00 theaters.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps also took the best per-theater average of the weekend with $28,520 in each of the 4,125 theaters.
