Weapons remained at the top of the box office with a fantastic second-week hold, while Nobody 2 was higher than its predecessor but fell under expectations.
Weapons made another $24.4 million, dropping 44% from last weekend’s opening, and it added 248 additional theaters. It now has $88.5 million domestically and $148.8 million worldwide. It has already made more than double what Barbarian made in its entire domestic run and over 3 times what it made worldwide.
Freakier Friday dropped 50% from last weekend, earning $14.2 million and bringing its domestic total to $54.5 million, with a worldwide total of $86.2 million. It’s about $1 million ahead of where Freaky Friday was in its second weekend of release, although Freaky Friday had a higher cumulative domestic gross.
Nobody 2 opened in third place with $9.2 million, which was slightly disappointing based on predictions and expectations going into the weekend, as it was expected to surpass $10 million and reach $15 million in some cases. The first Nobody opened to $6.8 million, but it was also very early in the recovery following 2020. The movie received a B+ CinemaScore, which isn’t ideal for its word of mouth heading into the upcoming weekend. Worldwide, Nobody 2 has $14.2 million so far.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps and The Bad Guys 2 rounded out the top 5, with Fantastic Four at $469.4 million worldwide and The Bad Guys 2 at $117.9 million worldwide.
Further down the list, the Hindi language action movie War 2 took 10th place with $1.6 million, bringing its domestic total to $3 million.
One movie noticeably absent from the box office charts is Americana, for which Lionsgate did not report numbers. The movie stars Sydney Sweeney and Paul Walter Hauser and played in 1,100 theaters. The best estimate is that it generated around $500,000, and Lionsgate appears to be focusing mainly on the VOD and streaming rights for the movie.
The best per-theater average went to The Glassworker, which earned $12,174 in the single theater where it played.
