For the first time in box office history, Netflix took the top spot on the charts with the limited theatrical release of their juggernaut Kpop Demon Hunters, which bumped Weapons down to second place.
Kpop Demon Hunters took in an estimated $19.2 million over the weekend, although Netflix refuses to provide an official total; this number is an estimate based on various box office analysis sites and available data outside of Netflix. Netflix also instructed distributors not to share ticket sales data with the service Comscore to conceal the actual ticket sales. The movie played in 1,700 theaters, although AMC was excluded from the limited-time event. Netflix previously had success with the limited release of Glass Onion. Still, they are stubbornly against any meaningful release for any of their big films, wanting them to draw watch time on Netflix. Still, it seems there could be a massive amount of money to be made if they started releasing some of their movies in wide theatrical release for a meaningful amount of time.
Weapons took in another $15.4 million, bringing the domestic total to just over $115 million and the worldwide total to just shy of $200 million. It’s currently the 18th highest-grossing film of 2025 worldwide and the 14th highest-grossing film domestically. It dropped only 37% from last weekend.
Freakier Friday dropped 38% from last weekend and moved down to third place with $8.8 million, increasing its domestic gross to $70.2 million and its worldwide total to $113.1 million.
Fantastic Four: First Steps and The Bad Guys 2 rounded out the top 5.
Down toward the bottom of the top 10, Honey Don’t! opened in 8th place with $3 million. That’s slightly above Ethan Coen’s previous solo effort, Drive Away Dolls, and almost more than that movie made in its entire domestic run.
Outside the top 10, Relay opened in 11th place with $1.9 million, Eden opened in 14th place with $1 million and Ne Zha 2, which made over $2.2 billion worldwide, added just $1.5 million to its previous domestic release total with its A24 backed English dub, which raised its domestic total to $18.5 million.
The best per-theater average went to Splitsville, which earned $ 21,663 in each of the five theaters it played in.
