Bad movie classic Mac and Me is getting a 4K release this week, so you can see scenes like main character Eric Cruise (Jade Calegory) careening off a cliff in his wheelchair in the highest quality it’s ever been seen. The movie is infamous for that scene and others, such as the McDonald’s dance sequence, but one aspect many people may not realize is that it featured a sincerely earnest song by Bobby Caldwell on the soundtrack, “Take Me, I’ll Follow You.” Caldwell was known for his 1978 hit “What You Won’t Do For Love”, which has been covered and sampled frequently since, and for writing songs for other artists, like “The Next Time I Fall” for Amy Grant and Peter Cetera in 1986. The film’s composer, the great Alan Silvestri, co-wrote “Take Me, I’ll Follow You” and it was released along with a selection of Silvestri’s score and the other songs from the film, like “Down to Earth” by Ashford & Simpson. The album was re-released in a limited edition of 1000 copies back in 2014. Although there was no official music video for the song, you can listen to it below.
