Martin Scorsese sets next project: Martin Scorsese is back with Apple after Killers of the Flower Moon for his next film, What Happens at Night. The movie is based on the ghost story novel of the same name by Peter Cameron and Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are set to star. The book follows a couple who travel to a small town in Europe to adopt a baby and find themselves in a massive, largely deserted hotel that isn’t quite what it seems. The movie is looking to start shooting in January.
New Starz series Fightland sets main cast: Starz has found the main cast for its upcoming boxing drama, Fightland. Howard Charles, Nicholas Pinnock, Deborah Ayorinde, Charles Babalola, Anita-Joy Uwajeh, Tahirah Sharif, Tyler Conti, and Richard Pepple were cast with Charles in the lead as Maduka “Duke” Kilroy, a former heavyweight boxing champion who returns home to London to get vengeance against the crime family he believes betrayed him. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is an executive producer on the series.
Kenan Thompson producing a new Sleepaway Camp: Cult classic Sleepaway Camp is getting a new spin from SNL’s Kenan Thompson. Original director Robert Hiltzik returns to direct, and he also wrote the screenplay, which will stay true to the original movie while adding “insane new twists.” Thompson is producing with Johnny Ryan Jr. through their AFA production company.
Daredevil: Born Again gets third season renewal: Daredevil is staying on Disney+ for another season, as Daredevil: Born Again was given a preemptive third season renewal. The first season debuted earlier this year and was well-received by fans and critics. Season 2 is out next year, along with a special presentation focusing on Jon Bernthal’s Punisher.
Ben Stiller and Jessica Chastain are starring in new Apple TV+ series: Already delivering them a hit with Severance, Ben Stiller is sticking with Apple for a new Apple TV+ series, The Off Weeks. Stiller is executive producing and starring in the series with Jessica Chastain, who is also an executive producer. The show follows Stiller’s character Gus Adler, who tries to balance his “on weeks” with his kids and his “off weeks”. During his off weeks, he falls for a mysterious woman, Stella West, who throws his entire life into chaos.
Paul Walter Hauser joins Resident Evil: Zach Cregger has found another addition for his upcoming Resident Evil movie, casting Paul Walter Hauser to star alongside Austin Abrams. While based on the iconic video game series, Cregger has said it’s not a direct adaptation of a game plot. The movie is set for release on September 18th next year.
Miami Vice movie gets a release date: Universal has set a date for Joseph Kosinski’s reboot of Miami Vice the film will hit theaters on August 6th, 2027. Casting is currently underway, and the film will be inspired by the pilot and first season of the classic 80s TV series that defined what was cool and fashionable for a massive chunk of the decade.
October film adds cast members: Jeremy Saulnier’s new film, October, has added two cast members with Young Mazino and Stephen Root. There are few details about the characters and plots but its being described as a fugitive thriller set on Halloween. Saulnier is coming off the Emmy winning Netflix movie Rebel Ridge.
Esai Morales starring in Coyote: Coming off his villainous turn in the last two Mission: Impossible movies, Esai Morales will star in a new film, Coyote. Directed by Emmy winner Per Prinz, the movie stars Morales as Hernán Barroca, a grizzled ex-smuggler who takes a mission to smuggle a mother and her daughter across the border, which draws the attention of both the US Border Patrol and a ruthless trafficking syndicate.
RIP Robert Redford: The legendary Robert Redford passed away this week at 89. An Oscar-winning director and iconic leading man, Redford starred in films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, All the President’s Men, The Sting, Three Days of the Condor, Spy Games, The Natural, The Last Castle, and many more. He directed films such as A River Runs Through It and Quiz Show. His last on-screen appearance was in a cameo on Dark Winds, the AMC series he executive-produced alongside George R.R. Martin. He was also responsible for the formation of the Sundance Film Festival through his Sundance Institute in Utah, which has kick-started the careers of people like Steven Soderbergh and Quentin Tarantino.
Guillermo Del Toro finds stars for new Netflix series: Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein is coming to Netflix soon, but GDT is already casting his next Netflix project, The Boy in the Iron Box. Based on the six-part novella series that Del Toro co-wrote with Chuck Hogan, the series will star Rupert Friend, Kevin Durand, and Jaeden Martell and follows a group of mercenaries who crash land on a snowy mountain. Seeking shelter, they find a stone fortress, but what’s inside is more terrifying than the cold and wolves outside. David Prior, who worked on Cabinet of Curiosities, is directing the movie.
Pamela Anderson forms new production company with sons: Coming off her starring roles in The Last Showgirl and The Naked Gun, Pamela Anderson has formed a new production company with her sons Brandon Thomas Lee and Dylan Jagger Lee. The new company is And-Her-Sons Productions and their first project is a reboot of Barb Wire, which was previously adapted into the infamous 1996 film starring Anderson. The new Barb Wire will be a TV series based on the Dark Horse Comics character, a bounty hunter who operates in the tough streets of Steel Harbor with a massive arsenal and her trusty motorcycle.
HBO developing Witness Protection series: HBO is developing a drama series that will follow the origins of the Witness Protection Program. Based on the non-fiction book WitSec: Inside the Federal Witness Protection Program by Pete Earley and Gerald Shur, the show follows a DOJ lawyer and a mob hitman turned informant who ally to take down powerful criminals and protect those willing to stand up to them. Justin Piasecki and David Kob are writing the series, previously working on Relay and Foundation.
Grave Encounters reboot in development: The cult favorite found footage horror series Grave Encounters is getting a reboot, with Justin Long set to star and produce. Long is producing with his wife and creative partner Kate Bosworth and Colin Minihan and Stuart Ortiz, who wrote the original Grave Encounters movies, are developing the reboot. The original film followed the crew of a ghost hunting reality show as they encounter real horror in an abandoned mental hospital.
