Cult sensation The Rocky Horror Picture Show turns 50 later this week, and even if you’ve never seen the movie or stage show, you’ve probably heard its catchy dance song “Time Warp”. Debuting in the original 1973 stage production, the song came over to the film version in 1975 and was included on the movie’s soundtrack. Richard O’Brien, Patricia Quinn, Little Nell are the credited performers on the song but there’s an entire troupe of dancers doing the Time Warp. The song appears relatively early in the movie, right after Janet (Susan Sarandon) and Brad (Barry Bostwick) arrive at the mysterious castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry). During the movie’s rowdy screenings, most of the audience jumps up and does the Time Warp dance when it begins in the film. The song was released as a single in the UK but not in the US. The entire Rocky Horror soundtrack album reached #49 on the Billboard Hot 200 album chart and re-entered the chart at #55 when Glee did its Rocky Horror episode. You can check out “Time Warp” below.
