Peaky Blinders sequel series greenlit: Peaky Blinders is coming back to Netflix with a new sequel series. Given an initial order of two seasons, the new show will be set in 1953 Britain, following the descendants of the Shelby family from the original series. Steven Knight returns as the show’s creator, and Cillian Murphy is on board as an executive producer.
New cast members join Eleven Days: Upcoming hostage thriller Eleven Days has added several new cast members, including Jeffrey Donovan, Jennifer Carpenter, Lola Kirke, and John Gallagher Jr. The movie stars Taylor Kitsch, Diego Luna, and Jason Isaacs. It is based on the real-life hostage situation that occurred in 1974 at Huntsville Penitentiary when prisoner Federico Carrasco, played by Luna, took over the prison.
Afterlife with Archie series in development: The Archie gang is coming to Disney+ as the team behind Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is adapting the comic series Afterlife with Archie. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Greg Berlanti are developing the series, with Aguirre-Sacasa having written the comic series, which also features art by Francesco Francavilla. The series will be an hour-long drama that finds Riverdale ravaged by an apocalyptic zombie outbreak.
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair coming to theaters: Long known only as a rumor or pipe dream, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is coming to theaters nationwide in December, taking Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 and re-editing them into one complete film, removing the cliffhanger ending of Vol. 1 and the recap of Vol. 2, while also adding a new, never-before-seen 7 1/2 minute animated sequence. The movie will hit theaters on December 5th, with special 70mm and 35mm presentations in theaters that offer those formats.
Lioness renewed for a third season: Paramount+’s action series Lioness will be back for a third season, getting renewed earlier this week. Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman will return to star, and the delay in the renewal stemmed from negotiating a new deal with Kidman for the third season. Saldaña had signed an initial agreement for the series that included three seasons. Both women are also executive producers on the series. There’s no word on the plot of season 3 or the returning/new cast members on the series.
Mads Mikkelsen starring in sci-fi movie Ami: Mads Mikkelsen will be starring in a new sci-fi movie, Ami, alongside Diane Kruger. Mikkelsen plays an astronaut who crash-lands on an unknown planet and only has his AI companion, voiced by Kruger, to figure out how to survive and possibly get home. Fernando Szurman directs the movie in his feature film debut.
Aldis Hodge joins Road House sequel: Road House 2 has added a new cast member with Aldis Hodge. He joins Jake Gyllenhaal, returning as Dalton, Dave Bautista, and Leila George. Ilya Naishuller, who most recently directed Heads of State for Amazon, is directing the film. Hodge stars in the Cross TV series for Amazon.
The Simpsons Movie sequel announced: The Simpsons will return to the big screen 20 years after the first movie in the franchise debuted. The Simpsons Movie sequel is set to arrive on July 23, 2027, replacing an unnamed Marvel project. No plot or director details have been revealed.
Carl Weathers has been cast in I Play Rocky: The Stallone biopic, which follows Stallone’s journey of writing and fighting to star as Rocky Balboa in the 1976 classic, has found its Carl Weathers. Stephen James will play Weathers, who has become as iconic as Stallone for his portrayal of Rocky’s foe-turned-friend, Apollo Creed. Noah Centineo is playing the young Stallone, and Peter Farrelly directs the movie.
Vought Rising adds new cast members: The upcoming prequel series to The Boys, Vought Rising, has added several new cast members. Cecily Strong, Mark Pellegrino, Eric Johnson, and Annie Shapero have joined the cast, which includes Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash reprising their roles as Soldier Boy and Stormfront, as well as Mason Dye, Will Hochman, KiKi Layne, Jordan Myrie, Nicolo Pasetti, Elizabeth Posey, Brian J. Smith, and Ricky Stafferi. The series is set in the 1950s and follows the origins of Vought and Compound V within the context of a “twisted murder mystery”.
