Along with appearing in the second season of Wednesday on Netflix as Rosaline Rotwood, Lady Gaga also contributed the song “The Dead Dance” to the show’s soundtrack. During the first season of Wednesday, Jenna Ortega’s viral dance scene was remixed to Gaga’s song “Bloody Mary” across social media, which Gaga acknowledged and recreated herself in a video. This led to an official collaboration between Gaga and the series for its second season. “The Dead Dance” debuted in the episode “Woe Me the Money,” where the characters Enid (Emma Myers) and Agnes (Evie Templeton) perform a highly choreographed dance to the song at Nevermore Academy’s Nevermore Gala as a distraction. Myers and Templeton subsequently joined Gaga on stage in London during the first night of Gaga’s The Mayhem Ball tour in the UK. An official music video was filmed, directed by Tim Burton himself, and filmed at one of the creepiest locations on Earth, the Island of the Dolls in Mexico. It leans heavily into Burton’s dark, gothic aesthetic and is filmed in black and white to enhance the old-school horror/silent movie vibe. Released as a single, the song debuted at #40 on the Billboard Hot 100. Check out the music video below.
