Bob Odenkirk action movie Normal coming in Spring 2026: Bob Odenkirk is back in action next spring when his next action movie, Normal, hits theaters on April 17th. Odenkirk plays a small-town substitute sheriff with a troubled past who responds to a bank robbery that explodes into something bigger. The movie co-stars Henry Winkler and Lena Headey. Derek Kolstad, who wrote both of Odenkirk’s Nobody films, wrote the screenplay, and Ben Wheatley directed.
Miami Vice duo in early talks: The stars for Joseph Kosinski’s reboot of Miami Vice may have found their stars with Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan in early talks to star. Butler would play Sonny Crockett, played by Don Johnson in the original TV series, while Jordan would play Ricardo Tubbs, played by Philip Michael Thomas on the TV series. No deals have been officially made, but if everything works out, the movie could start shooting late next year.
Johnny Depp playing Scrooge for Ti West: Johnny Depp will play Ebenezer Scrooge in a version of A Christmas Carol from horror director Ti West. Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is “a thrilling ghost story set in Dickens’ London, follows one man’s supernatural journey to face his past, present and future and fight for a second chance.” Andrea Riseborough will co-star in the movie. West is coming off the X trilogy, which concluded with MaXXXine last year.
The Rainmaker renewed at USA: USA has renewed its legal drama The Rainmaker for a second season. Based on the John Grisham novel, the show stars Milo Callaghan, John Slattery, Lana Parrilla, Madison Iseman, P.J. Byrne, Dan Fogler, Wade Briggs, and Robyn Cara and follows a young lawyer fresh out of law school who battles a veteran lawyer in a case involving the death of his client and the conspiracies that surround it. The show is a joint venture between Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Television and drew 1.3 million viewers per episode.
Jason Statham movie Mutiny gets release date: Jason Statham’s latest action movie will debut in late summer next year. Mutiny arrives in theaters on August 21st, and Statham stars as Cole Reed. When Reed sees his billionaire boss murdered and he’s framed for the crime, he boards a cargo ship to go on a one-person revenge spree and uncovers an international conspiracy. Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, Ramon Tikaram, Arnas Fedaravičius, Jason Wong, and Adrian Lester co-star with Jean-François Richet directing.
Mitchells vs. The Machines sequel announced: Netflix hit The Mitchells vs. The Machines is getting a sequel as The Mitchells vs. The Machines 2 was announced this week. Production is expected to begin next year, and Guillermo Martinez, who headed the story of the first film, and JP Sans, who co-directed The Bad Guys 2, are directing the film. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, who created the series The Great North, are writing the script. The movie will be released on Netflix. There’s currently no news on who from the cast will return.
David Chase developing MK Ultra show for HBO: David Chase, creator of The Sopranos, is developing a limited series about the CIA’s MK Ultra project. Project: MKUltra will be about “Sidney Gottlieb, often known as The Black Sorcerer, who headed the CIA’s MKUltra Psychedelic program which conducted dangerous and deadly mind control experiments on willing – and unwilling – subjects during the height of the Cold War.” The show is based on the book Project Mind Control: Sidney Gottlieb, the CIA, and the Tragedy of MKUltra by John Lisle.
Energon Universe series coming: An adult-oriented Transformers/GI Joe/Void Rivals series, Energon Universe, is being developed by Skybound Entertainment and shopped out to TV buyers. Joe Henderson, who previously was the showrunner on Lucifer, will be the showrunner on this series. The show will be in a similar vein to Invincible on Prime Video, an adaptation of Skybound and Robert Kirkman’s comic series.
Several new cast members join The Social Reckoning: The sequel to The Social Network, The Social Reckoning, has added Billy Magnussen, Betty Gilpin, Gbenga Akinnagbe, and Anna Lambe. Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, Jeremy Strong, Bill Burr, and Wunmi Mosaku were previously cast. Aaron Sorkin is writing and directing the film, which follows Facebook engineer Frances Haugen (Madison) as she enlists the help of reporter Jeff Horwitz (White) to expose the social media platform’s most guarded secrets.
Catan universe of movies and TV coming to Netflix: The board game that kicked off the modern designer board game boom is coming to Netflix in a series of scripted and unscripted TV shows and movies. Netflix acquired the rights to Catan from Asmodee. It will work with Darren Kyman from Asmodee, Pete Fenlon from Catan Studios, and Guido and Benjamin Teuber, the sons of Catan creator Klaus Teuber. The game takes place on the fictional island of Catan, where players work to build settlements and roads, trading resources with other players to try and achieve their goals.
Tom Hopper joins The Mark spy movie: Most recently seen on The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, Tom Hopper will co-star with Jessica Alba in the upcoming spy movie The Mark. Directed by Justin Chadwick, the movie stars Alba as Eden, a covert agent who pulls single father Ben Dawson (Hopper) into her mission. Mistaken for the world’s deadliest assassin, he becomes a target of the CIA, Interpol, and crime syndicates. At the same time, Eden uses him as a decoy to expose a web of corrupt politicians.
Melissa Barrera joins thriller Black Tides: Melissa Barrera will co-star with John Travolta in the upcoming thriller Black Tides. The movie follows Travolta as Bill Pierce, an estranged father who is trying to reconnect with his daughter Rebecca (Barrera) and grandson Sebastian (Dylan Torrell). On a sailing trip, the family is attacked by rogue orcas and enters a deadly battle for survival. Renny Harlin directs the movie, and Ella Bleu Travolta and Álvaro Mel also co-star.
Prison Break spin-off greenlit: The Prison Break spin-off series has gotten a series order at Hulu. Elgin James, who created the original series, is back to direct this new series, which will be a brand new story separate from the original. Emily Browning stars as a soldier turned corrections officer who takes a job at one of the deadliest prisons in America to help someone she loves. Drake Rodger, Lukas Gage, Clayton Cardenas, JR Bourne, and Myles Bullock co-star. The original series and its limited series follow-up are both currently streaming on Hulu.
