Ryan Reynolds looking to produce/star in new Thunderbolt & Lightfoot: Amazon MGM is looking to remake the 1974 film Thunderbolt & Lightfoot and Ryan Reynold is in talks to produce the film and star. The original film, directed by Michael Cimino, the director of The Deer Hunter, was his directorial debut. It starred Jeff Bridges and Clint Eastwood as heist partners looking to pull off a daring new score. Bridges earned a Best Supporting Actor nomination for the film. Shane Reid, an editor on Deadpool & Wolverine, will make his directorial debut with this remake.
Hayley Atwell joins Empire City: Hayley Atwell will costar with Gerard Butler in the upcoming action-thriller Empire City. Butler plays an NYFD firefighter while Atwell will play his NYPD officer wife. When a hostage situation erupts at the Clybourn Building, the duo is forced into action to enter the building and rescue the hostages. Michael Matthews, who directed Love & Monsters, is directing the film, and S. Craig Zahler, known for Bone Tomahawk and Brawl in Cell Block 99, co-wrote the screenplay.
All-star cast joins My Darling California: Upcoming crime thriller My Darling California has assembled an all-star cast featuring Jessica Chastain, Josh Brolin, Chris Pine, Mikey Madison, Don Cheadle, and Charles Melton. The movie follows how a single crime affects several people in Los Angeles, including a TV host, a country singer, and two small-time crooks. Elijah Bynum, who directed Magazine Dreams, wrote and directed the film.
Road House 2 adds several to the cast: Road House 2 went on a cast announcement spree this week, adding several names to the upcoming Amazon sequel. Peter Sargaard, Rob Delaney, Rico Verhoeven, Michael Chandler, Michael “Venom” Page, Dustin Poirier, Stephen Thompson, Tyron Woodley, Jay Hieron, Andrew “King Bach” Bachelor, Iko Uwais, and Hidetoshi Nishijima were all announced for the film this week. Jake Gyllenhaal returns as Dalton, and Dave Bautista, Aldis Hodge, and Leila George were previously announced to costar. Ilya Naishuller, who directed Nobody, is directing the sequel.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas starring in new S.S. Rajamouli movie: Priyanka Chopra Jonas will be starring in the next film from RRR director S.S. Rajamouli. Chopra Jonas will costar with Mahesh Babu. The movie is currently untitled, and there are no plot details available; however, it will be distributed in the US, in addition to India.
AMC greenlights NASCAR drama series: AMC is hitting the track with a NASCAR-based drama series, Thunder Road. John Fusco, who wrote Young Guns and created Marco Polo for Netflix, is the showrunner/creator of the series. Thunder Road, “follows the multi-generational saga of the Whitlock family, whose legacy in stock car racing is as deep as the family’s ties to the southern hill country roots that shaped them.” The series is being produced with the full cooperation of NASCAR.
GTA 6 delayed until November 2026: In not shocking news, GTA 6 has been postponed until November 19th, 2026. The game received a massive trailer drop earlier this year, accompanied by a May 2026 release date, which forced almost every other game company to move out of that space for their own releases. There wasn’t a reason given for the delay, which was announced during a shareholder earnings call with investors at Take-Two.
Gremlins 3 announced: Gremlins is coming back to theaters in November 2027 with a third movie in the beloved franchise. Chris Columbus will take over directing duties from Joe Dante, who directed the two previous films in the series, and Steven Spielberg is back aboard to produce. No plot or casting details have been revealed for the film.
Crime thriller ‘Green River Killer’ finds its cast: An upcoming crime thriller based on the hunt for serial killer Gary Ridgway has found its main cast. Green River Killer will star David Arquette, Nick Stahl, Vincent Kartheiser, and Rainey Qualley, with Arquette and Stahl playing the detectives on the trail of the killer. Ridgway was convicted of killing 49 people between 1982 and 1998.
More cast members join Denzel Washington in Here Comes the Flood: Several cast members were announced to join Denzel Washington in the upcoming Netflix heist thriller, Here Comes the Flood. Danai Gurira, Sean Harris, Moisés Arias, and Justin Kirk will star in the movie, which Oscar-nominated filmmaker Fernando Meirelles directs. Robert Pattinson and Daisy Edgar-Jones were previously announced as costars.
Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone teaming up for Miss Piggy movie: Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are teaming up with Tony winner Cole Escola for a film starring Miss Piggy. Escola will write the screenplay while Lawrence and Stone will produce the film. The movie is in early development at Disney, which owns the rights to The Muppets. The last major Muppets project was The Muppets Mayhem on Disney+, and a revival special of The Muppet Show is scheduled for next year to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary.
New Mummy movie in development: Universal is developing a fourth film in the beloved 90s The Mummy series, with stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz in discussions to return as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell. Radio Silence, also known as Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, is directing the film, and David Coggeshall, who wrote the Family Plan movies, is writing the script. The last movie in the Mummy franchise was 2008′s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, for which Weisz did not return.
The Book of Cold Cases TV series picked up by MGM Television: After an apparent multi-studio bidding war, The Book of Cold Cases, a crime novel by Simone St. James, was picked up to become a TV series by MGM Television. Colleen McGuinness, who previously worked on 30 Rock, Ramy, Friends from College, and Life After Beth, pitched the series and will write and produce it along with St. James. The book is about ” a true crime blogger gets more than she bargained for while interviewing the woman acquitted of two cold case slayings.”
Horror thriller Claire finds its starring cast: Upcoming horror thriller Claire has found its main cast, featuring Krysten Ritter, Cameron Crovetti, Sarah Bolger, and Carrie-Anne Moss. The movie is about “the intersection of addiction and the supernatural in modern-day rural New Mexico”. It is pitched as having elements of The Babadook, The Relic, and Hereditary. Tracy Kleeman, who directed the viral horror short film Fear Filter, is making her directorial debut with Claire. She was an assistant to James Wan, who mentored her in the ways of directing horror.
Bewitched reboot in the works at Fox: A reboot of the classic sitcom Bewitched is in development at Fox. Judalina Neira, who worked on The Boys and Daisy Jones and the Six, is the writer and executive producer of the new series. The show features the same premise as the original, with witch Samantha in a relationship with human Darrin, but now it’s an hour-long dramatic series, similar to Bel-Air’s take on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air on Peacock.
Lionsgate gets Rambo and Expendables rights: Lionsgate has acquired the rights to produce future film and TV productions based on Rambo and The Expendables from Millennium Films. Lionsgate will be the worldwide distributor of the upcoming prequel movie, John Rambo, which stars Noah Centineo as the younger Rambo in Vietnam. Lionsgate will be partnering with Millennium on Rambo projects, but for The Expendables, they have all derivative works rights, meaning they can produce movies, TV shows, video games, comics, immersive experiences, and more.
RIP Diane Ladd: Oscar-nominated actress Diane Ladd died this past week at age 89. Ladd first starred in the movie The Wild Angels for Roger Corman before appearing in films like Chinatown, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Wild at Heart, and Rambling Rose, which costarred her daughter, Laura Dern. Ladd and Dern made Oscar history when they became the first mother/daughter duo nominated for the same film. She also appeared in Christmas Vacation, Ghosts of Mississippi, 28 Days, and Primary Colors. Her last on-screen appearance was in 2022’s Isle of Hope.
