IDW Games is stomping back into the tabletop scene with its first release in over five years. The publisher has officially announced Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game, the first-ever tabletop RPG set in the iconic kaiju universe. The game will launch in March via Kickstarter and brings together three veterans of Warhammer—Jervis Johnson, Mark A. Latham, and Gav Thorpe—for their first co-created tabletop system.
Instead of dice, Godzilla: The RPG uses standard 52-card decks to guide players as they take on the role of humanity’s defenders during devastating kaiju attacks. Fans can already sign up for early information through IDW Games.
Attendees at PAX Unplugged will be the first to get hands-on with the new system. IDW Games is hosting multiple playtest sessions, each lasting 1.5 to 2 hours, and participants will walk away with exclusive previews and limited-edition merchandise. The booth will also offer PAX-exclusive Godzilla RPG items, including beanies, playmats, notebooks, pins, koozies, playing cards, tote bags, and more.
The upcoming Kickstarter campaign is scheduled to run for 30 days in early 2026 and will feature limited-edition pledge tiers, with fulfillment expected by fall 2026. Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game marks the start of IDW’s renewed push into tabletop publishing, with additional licensed properties already in development and future games to be funded through Kickstarter.
