Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 knocked Zootopia 2 and Wicked: For Good down the top 10 and had one of the best post-Thanksgiving weekends in box office history.
FNAF 2 opened with $64 million domestically, which is down from the first movie’s opening weekend of $80 million in 2023. The first film was also released simultaneously on Peacock, while FNAF 2 is a solely theatrical release. FNAF 2’s opening is still excellent and was well above expectations, which were predicting $40-50 million for the sequel. Much like the first FNAF, the movie also scored well with fans, with an 87% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to critics, who gave it an abysmal 15%. Worldwide, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 made $110.5 million.
Zootopia 2 dropped to second place with $43.4 million, a drop of 57% from last weekend’s massive opening. The movie has grossed $220.9 million domestically after two weeks and $917.9 million worldwide. Crossing the billion mark is basically a foregone conclusion at this point, and it will join Lilo & Stitch as the only other Hollywood release to hit that mark worldwide this year.
Wicked: For Good had a steep 72% drop, taking in another $17.3 million domestically. It’s now at $297.5 million total domestically and $440.9 million worldwide. The movie is proving to be much more front-loaded than the first, and is now tracking behind where the first Wicked was at the same point in its release. If it keeps this pace, it may end up about $100 million behind what the first Wicked grossed domestically.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution and Now You See Me: Now You Don’t rounded out the top 5. Jujutsu Kaisen opened to $10 million domestically and has $35.8 million worldwide.
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair opened just outside the top 5 in sixth place with $3.4 million in 1,198 theaters. The movie got a rare A+ Cinemascore from opening audiences, meaning that it delivered exactly what people wanted and more. Kill Bill Vol. 1 opened to $22 million in 2003, while Vol. 2 opened to $25 million that same year.
Oscar contender Hamnet expanded to 744 theaters and took eighth place with $2.3 million. Eternity also added just over 1,000 theaters and took seventh place with $2.7 million.
The best per-theater average was the Lucy Liu-starring film Rosemead, which grossed $50,243 at the one theater where it played over the weekend.
