Despite terrible reviews from critics, Scream 7 set a new record at the box office for the horror franchise and had the best opening domestically so far this year.
Scream 7 debuted with $63.6 million domestically and $96.7 million worldwide. That’s around $19 million higher than the previous best opening for the Scream franchise, 2023’s Scream VI.  If you adjust for inflation, Scream 2 is the highest-opening entry, with an adjusted total of $85.7 million. Scream 7 got a B- CinemaScore, which is decent for a horror film, but we’ll have to see how it drops off this coming weekend to determine whether it was front-loaded.
GOAT dropped to second with $12 million, only dropping 29% from last weekend.  It has grossed $73.9 million domestically and $130.4 million worldwide in its three weeks of release.
“Wuthering Heights” moved to third place with another $6.7 million domestically. It has $72 million domestically and $191.7 million worldwide.
Two concert special events rounded out the top 5.  Twenty One Pilots: More Than We Ever Imagined took fourth place with $3.7 million in 836 theaters, while EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert expanded to non-IMAX screens and took fifth place with $3.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $7.8 million.
I Can Only Imagine 2 and How to Make a Killing both dropped over 55% from last weekend’s opening and slipped into the bottom of the top 10, with I Can Only Imagine 2 going to seventh place from third last week and How to Make a Killing almost dropping out of the top 10 in ninth place.
Scream 7Â had the best per-theater average of the weekend with $17,970 in each of the 3,540 theaters it was playing in.
