With Zach on vacation in Florida this weekend, we’re in a summer state of mind and 1989’s Weekend at Bernie’s was full of wacky beach hi-jinks and featured Jermaine Stewart’s “Hot and Cold” for the closing credits. A comedy that could only come out of the coke fueled madness of the 80s, Weekend at Bernie’s starred Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman as low-level employees at an insurance company. When they discover a large embezzlement scheme, their boss, Bernie Lomax (Terry Kiser) invites them out to his beach house in The Hamptons but he’s secretly behind the scheme and wants the mob to kill them. The mob instead kills Bernie, because he’s having an affair with the mob boss’s girlfriend and McCarthy and Silverman need to keep up appearances with Bernie’s corpse as guests show up to party. “Hot and Cold” played over the movie’s end credits and was released as a single to promote the film. 80s soundtrack legend Michael Sembello produced the track. Oddly, there doesn’t seem to be a Bernie’s themed music video but you can still listen to the song below.
