A remake of the notorious cult horror classic Faces of Death is out this weekend, and another franchise that surely drew inspiration from the 1978 original is the V/H/S series. You can watch the original movie in the latest Everything Action Theater. Created by Brad Miska and his website Bloody Disgusting, the first entry in the found footage anthology featured shorts from David Bruckner, Radio Silence, Ti West, Adam Wingard, Glenn McQuaid, and Joe Swanberg and used a framing device of a group of thieves who break into a house to steal a specific VHS tape and watching each short to try and find the correct one. The movie got mixed reviews from critics but did well enough during its limited theatrical release and on Video on Demand to create a franchise that is still ongoing, with the eighth entry, V/H/S Halloween, releasing last year on Shudder (and this week on physical media). One of the entries from this first movie, “Amateur Night”, was expanded into a full-length spin-off movie, Siren, in 2016. You can watch the movie below via DailyMotion.
