Here’s all the movie and TV news you need to know from the past week, it’s the News Shotgun.

Cameron Diaz starring in Troop Beverly Hills sequel: Cameron Diaz is keeping busy after returning to acting last year with Back in Action and this weekend’s Outcome, and she has signed on to star in a sequel to the ’80s cult comedy Troop Beverly Hills.  Clea Duvall wrote and is directing the sequel, although plot details and how it connects to the original Shelley Long film are being kept under wraps.
Peter Dinklage joins Alien: Earth Season 2: The first new cast member for season 2 of FX’s Alien: Earth has been announced, with Peter Dinklage joining the cast. No character details were revealed with Dinklage’s casting. Dinklage appeared on FX last year in a guest role on The Lowdown with Ethan Hawke. Season 2 of Alien: Earth is set to begin production in London in May.
Noah Hawley directing remake of Terrified: Speaking of Alien: Earth, the show’s creator, Noah Hawley, has signed on to direct an English-language remake of the horror film Terrified.  The original film hails from Argentina and follows a police officer and paranormal investigators as they look into supernatural occurrences in a Buenos Aires neighborhood. The original film’s writer/director, Demián Rugna, has signed on as a producer.
Extraction 3 greenlit at Netflix: Chris Hemsworth and Idris Elba will return to Netflix for a third entry in the Extraction series of action films. Golshifteh Farahani is also returning to co-star, and Sam Hargrave is also back to direct after directing the previous two films in the series. There are currently no plot details for the third movie.
Emilia Clarke starring in When Darkness Loves Us: Emilia Clarke has signed on to star in an adaptation of the cult horror novella When Darkness Loves Us by Elizabeth Engstrom. The story follows a young woman who has survived for 15 years trapped in an underground cave system. Finally back on the surface, she sets out to reclaim the family she thinks is hers, no matter the cost. Marlon Williams, Victoria Pedretti, and Natascha McElhone co-starred, and James Ashcroft directed the film. The film, which just wrapped production in New Zealand, was picked up for distribution by Bleeker Street.
Ride Along 3 in development: Ice Cube and Kevin Hart may be returning for another ride as Ride Along 3 has been put into early development. Cube and Hart are in early talks to return to co-star, and director Tim Story is also in talks to return as well. A recent script/pitch from screenwriter Daniel Gold apparently got all parties excited for a return to the franchise.
Lords of War picked up by Vertical:  Vertical has acquired the US rights to the upcoming Lord of War sequel, Lords of War.  Directed by Andrew Niccol, who directed the first film, Lords of War sees Nicolas Cage returning as arms dealer Yuri Orlov, who discovers he has a son, Anton (Bill Skarsgard). Anton has become a ruthless mercenary who has built a private army and is looking to exploit America’s wars in the Middle East, seeking to surpass his father in notoriety and power.
Tales from the Crypt streaming for the first time on Shudder: In massive news for horror fans, Tales from the Crypt will be officially streaming for the first time next month on Shudder. After decades of being caught in a quagmire of legal rights issues, all seven seasons of the cult classic HBO series will be available, uncensored, on Shudder on May 1st as part of the service’s Halfway to Halloween promotion.
Wednesday adds new guest stars: As production is currently underway on Season 3, the Netflix hit has added three new guest stars: Lena Headey, Andrew McCarthy, and James Lance. Their roles are currently unknown, but they join other new additions to the cast, including Eva Green, Winona Ryder, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, and Kennedy Moyer.
Kevin Bacon starring in Southern Bastards Hulu series: Kevin Bacon has signed on to star in the upcoming Hulu adaptation of the graphic novel series Southern Bastards by Jason Aaron & Jason Latour. The TV series is created by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who directed King Richard and Bob Marley: One Love, and follows a military vet who returns home to Crow County, Alabama, in search of her estranged father and finds a massive organized crime network run by the town’s high school football coach.
Tom Pelphrey joins Liminal: Tom Pelphrey, most recently seen on HBO’s Task, has signed on to join Vanessa Kirby and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in Liminal.  An Apple sci-fi film; plot details have not been revealed, but it is being directed by Louis Letterier and is based on the graphic novel Telepaths by J. Michael Straczynski, Steve Epting, and Brian Reber.
Eve Hewson signs on to Isle of Man: Eve Hewson, most recently seen in Jay Kelly and later this year in Disclosure Day, has signed on to co-star with Channing Tatum in Isle of Man.  An Amazon MGM film, it’s set in the world of the Isle of Man TT, the world’s oldest continuously run motorsport event, where racers ride motorcycles at almost 200 mph around the winding roads and tight villages of the Isle of Man, which sits between Ireland and the United Kingdom in the Irish Sea.
Metal Gear Solid movie in development: The duo who brought us the fantastic Final Destination: Bloodlines last year, Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, have signed on to direct a Metal Gear Solid movie for Sony. There’s been a film version of the Hideo Kojima classic in development since 2012, with Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts attached and Oscar Isaac signed on to direct. There are no details on whether Isaac is still attached or if this will be a complete reset.
New Brad Bird movie Ray Gunn coming to Netflix: Brad Bird is returning to the world of animation with the new sci-fi movie Ray Gunn for Netflix. Described as “The Maltese Falcon meets Buck Rogers”, Sam Rockwell stars as PI Raymond Gunn in an alternate sci-fi 1939, who gets drawn into a case involving “aliens, murder, and a multimedia star named Venus Nova (Scarlett Johansson).” Tom Waits will also co-star. Bird’s last film was 2018’s Incredibles 2.
