Battle at the Box Office 11/11/24
Venom: The Last Dance remained at the top of the box office charts for a third weekend and crossed over $100 million domestically.
Venom: The Last Dance dropped 39% from last weekend and took in another $15.9 million. It now has $114.4 million domestically and $393.8 million worldwide. It’s nowhere near the previous Venom movies, but it has now outgrossed Into the Spider-Verse worldwide.
Heretic opened in second place with $11 million. That’s the third-best opening weekend in A24’s history, behind only Civil War and Hereditary. Those films and Heretic are the only A24 movies to open over $10 million. The movie did get a C+ CinemaScore, so word of mouth may not be that great, and the first potentially massive holiday blockbuster, Red One, is opening this weekend and will probably suck up most of the box office, so Heretic could have a pretty steep drop coming up.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever opened in third place with $10.7 million. On the flipside of Heretic, it got an A CinemaScore and could potentially hang around based on its word of mouth. It’s a small victory for Lionsgate, which has had one of the worst years in box office history for a major studio.
The Wild Robot and Smile 2 rounded out the top 5. The Wild Robot has $292.2 million worldwide, and Smile 2 has $123.7 million worldwide.
Further down the list, red-hot award-season contender Anora moved into the top 10 after expanding to over 1,000 theaters, taking 7th place with $2.5 million. It now has $7.2 million domestically. Behind Anora was Here, which fell from fifth to eighth place with $2.4 million.
The per-theater average went to A Real Pain, which made $24,554 in each of the 12 theaters it played in over the weekend.
