Everything Action Theater: Mr. Nice Guy (1997)
Directed by his friend and frequent collaborator Sammo Hung, Jackie Chan stars as a TV chef who becomes the target of various gangs in 1997’s Mr. Nice Guy, which you can watch in the latest Everything Action Theater. When a news reporter records footage of a cocaine deal between the Italian mob and a street gang called The Demons, the tape gets switched with one of Jackie’s cooking shows. Richard Norton, who co-starred with Jackie in City Hunter, co-stars as Giancarlo, the mob boss, and Miki Lee, Karen McLymont, and Gabrielle Fitzpatrick co-star. The movie was the first Jackie Chan movie to be scripted and shot in English. The film was released in Hong Kong on Chinese New Year in 1997. New Line Cinema acquired the international rights for $6 million, editing 13 minutes out, rearranging scenes, partially redubbing the film, and adding a new score.
