Here’s all the movie and TV news you need to know from the past week, it’s the News Shotgun.

The Equalizer canceled at CBS:  CBS has canceled its version of The Equalizer after five seasons, and this Sunday’s season finale will be the series finale. Queen Latifah stars as a former CIA operative, Robyn McCall, who uses her skills to get justice for people with nowhere else to turn.

GTA 6 Release Date DelayedWe now know when the massively anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 will release, and it will be another year. Initially set for release this fall, GTA 6 is now set for May 26th next year. The game follows the series’ first female protagonist, Lucia, and takes the franchise back to the Florida-based locale of Vice City and beyond.

Takashi Miike directing new thriller Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo:  The legendary Takashi Miike, who was previously brought us films like Audition and 13 Assassins, is directing a new thriller called Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo. Taking inspiration from the previous Bad Lieutenant films, the movie follows a corrupt Metropolitan Police Force officer who is teamed up with an FBI agent who arrives in Tokyo to investigate the disappearance of a politician’s daughter: Shun Oguri, Lily James, and Liv Morgan co-star.

Charlie xcx is starring and producing a new Takashi Miike movieIn other Takashi Miike news, pop star Charlie xcx is producing and starring in what seems like a different upcoming film from the legendary director. There are no plot details or a title for this project.

Chris Hemsworth starring in submarine action movie Subversion: Chris Hemsworth is going underwater for Amazon MGM for a new thriller called Subversion. Hemsworth plays a former Naval commander who is blackmailed into piloting a submarine full of illegal cargo, dodging blockades and other threats. Patrick Vollrath, who previously directed 7500 starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is directing Subversion.

Guy Ritchie directing Road House 2: After the frustrations expressed by Road House director Doug Liman, Amazon MGM has hired Guy Ritchie to direct the sequel to last year’s Prime Video hit. Jake Gyllenhaal is back as bouncer Dalton, although there are no plot details. This will reunite Ritchie and Gyllenhaal, who worked together on Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant. This will also be another streaming service where Ritchie has a project, as he’s also worked with Netflix, Paramount+, and Apple TV+.

Sgt. Rock movie no longer in developmentLuca Guadagnino’s DC movie Sgt. Rock is no longer in development, but it may not be fully dead. The main issue was weather, as the production couldn’t start this summer in the UK and could not shoot there in the winter. Warner Bros/DC is hoping they can start the project back up next year, but it’s not clear if Guadagnino will still be attached to direct. Colin Farrell was attached to star as DC’s World War II hero.

Sam Elliott joins Landman: A Taylor Sheridan vet is jumping from one series to another as Sam Elliott joins the cast of Landman for season 2. Elliott starred in the Yellowstone prequel, 1883, but his role in Landman is currently unknown. Billy Bob Thornton stars in Landman as oil industry fixer Tommy Norris, and the series was a massive hit for Paramount+, ranking in the top 10 of all streaming shows in Q4 of last year and had 35 million views for its premiere.

Jensen Ackles thriller Countdown gets a release date: The new thriller series on Amazon, Countdown, starring Jensen Ackles, has gotten a release date. The series will debut on June 25th with the first three episodes. The show follows Ackles as LAPD detective Mark Meachum, who is recruited for a top-secret task force to investigate the murder of a Homeland Security agent, and a bigger, more sinister plot is revealed.

Joseph Kosinski directing Miami Vice reboot Joseph Kosinski has F1 hitting theaters next month, and he’s already signed on for a new project, a reboot of Miami Vice. Dan Gilroy, who most recently wrote for Andor for his brother Tony Gilroy, is rewriting the first draft of this reboot script. It’s unclear what the movie’s tone will be or who will star. The most recent Miami Vice movie was Michael Mann’s gritty 2006 reboot that starred Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx.
