Jason cast for Friday the 13th prequel series: The Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, has found its Jason with Callum Vinson cast in the role. Linda Cardellini plays Pamela Voorhees, and the series focuses on her before she takes her murderous turn in the first movie in the franchise. Brad Caleb Kane is the showrunner, and the series will stream exclusively on Peacock.
Basic Instinct reboot in development: Amazon MGM is developing a reboot of the 90s erotic thriller classic Basic Instinct. The new movie features the return of original Basic Instinct writer Joe Eszterhas, who is writing the screenplay. The original was directed by Paul Verhoeven and starred Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone as a detective who investigates a murder but becomes seduced by the crime’s main suspect.
Captain Planet reboot coming to Netflix: The ’90s favorite Captain Planet is coming to Netflix with a live-action adaptation. Greg Berlanti and Leonardo DiCaprio are executive producers of the series, while Tara Hernandez is writing it. There were plans for a live-action movie based on the series at Paramount, starting in 2016, with Glen Powell attached; however, that project fell through.
Taika Waititi is directing a new Judge Dredd film. Taika Waititi is tackling another iconic comic book character, as he has signed on to direct a new Judge Dredd movie. Drew Pearce, who wrote The Fall Guy and M: I – Rogue Nation, is writing the script. There is no Hollywood studio attached yet, but it is being shopped around. Dredd previously appeared in film with the 1995 Sly Stallone movie and the cult favorite Dredd with Karl Urban. Waititi’s involvement suggests a more comedic version of Dredd, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Invincible gets Season 5 renewal: Before Season 4 debuts on Prime Video, Amazon has given an early Season 5 renewal to its animated superhero hit, Invincible. Season 4 is set to arrive next year. It was also revealed that Matthew Rhys will join the voice cast in an undisclosed role.
Assassin’s Creed live action series coming to Netflix: The latest project from Netflix’s collaboration with Ubisoft, a live-action Assassin’s Creed series is being developed for the streaming platform. Roberto Patino and David Wiener, who collectively worked on Halo, Westworld, DMZ, and Homecoming, are the showrunners for the series. The show will follow the battle between the Assassins and the Templars, but there are no details on whether it will be based on a specific game in the franchise or feature characters from the series.
Diego Luna joins Taylor Kitsch in Eleven Days: Andor star Diego Luna has been cast to star opposite Taylor Kitsch in the upcoming thriller Eleven Days, based on actual events. Eleven Days sees Luna star as drug kingpin Federico Carrasco, who took over Huntsville Penitentiary after an escape attempt and held hostages for 11 days. Kitsch plays Jim Estelle, the head of Texas Corrections, who is looking to end the siege. Director Peter Landesman is directing the movie.
Olivia Colman and Brie Larson co-starring in Cry Wolf: Olivia Colman and Brie Larson are heading to FX to co-star in a new drama series, Cry Wolf. The show is inspired by the Danish series, Ulven Kommer, and is a psychological thriller that follows a mother, played by Larson, whose teenage daughter makes allegations of abuse. Colman plays the social worker called in to investigate the situation.
Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell are co-starring in an action comedy called Tough Guys: The movie follows “two henchmen who are tired of being disposable and break free from the criminal underworld, rewriting the rules as they build a new life on their own terms.” Amazon MGM is producing the movie, but no director is attached yet. Both Ferrell and Gosling have worked with Amazon MGM recently, with You’re Cordially Invited for Ferrell and the upcoming movies Project Hail Mary with Gosling and Judgement Day for Ferrell.
Live-action Zelda and Link cast for The Legend of Zelda: Nintendo and Sony have found their stars for the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. Bragason has been cast as Princess Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth has been cast as Link. Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto announced on Nintendo’s social media. Wes Ball, who most recently directed Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is directing the movie, which is scheduled to release on May 7, 2027.
Netflix’s Trinity adds several cast members: Netflix’s upcoming thriller, Trinity, has added several recurring cast members to the series. Bruce Greenwood, Robert Wisdom, Kirk Acevedo, Ben Cotton, James Remar, Jason Ralph, and Mark O’brien have all joined the series, which stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Richard Madden, Marcia Gay Harden, and JD Pardo. The series follows a female naval officer who becomes involved with the Secretary of Defense and discovers that he may be part of a dangerous conspiracy.
