The Fantastic Four make their MCU debut this weekend with Fantastic Four: First Steps. While there are sure to be plenty of easter eggs to the Four’s past, I highly doubt we’ll get any references to the infamous hip-hop song “Flame On” from the 1994 animated series. Debuting in September 1994 as part of the “Marvel Action Hour” with the 90s Iron Man cartoon, Fantastic Four adapted several storylines from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, with Lee introducing most of the episodes in Season 1. Brian Austin Green voiced Johnny Storm in the peak of Beverly Hills 90210. Green was also trying to get his hip-hop/rap career going, which was reflected in both series. For Fantastic Four, the widely accepted lore is that Green approached the producers of the animated series to perform a song for the show, which resulted in “Flame On” appearing in the 11th episode of Season 1. It’s also widely accepted that Slimkid3 from the critically acclaimed hip-hop group The Pharcyde provided the beat, as Slimkid3 produced Green’s 1996 album One Stop Carnival. You can watch the clip from the series featuring the song below.
