Anna Faris and Regina Hall are returning for a new Scary Movie. The upcoming reboot of the Scary Movie franchise will feature the franchise’s two leading ladies, Anna Faris and Regina Hall, who confirmed they will be reprising their roles as Cindy and Brenda. Faris and Hall appeared in the first four movies in the series but were not in 2013’s Scary Movie 5. The Wayans Brothers are reuniting to write and produce a new film, which is set to hit theaters on June 12, 2020.
Crime thriller The Girl in the River adds cast members: The upcoming crime thriller The Girl in the River has revealed its starring cast members, with Maggie Grace, Devon Sawa, Ralph Macchio, and Tiffany Haddish. The movie follows “a seasoned criminologist and a young female psychologist are lured to a remote Mississippi town to investigate the murder of a little girl and the disappearance of her twin sister.” The film will be the feature debut of Brando Benetton and is currently shooting in Mississippi.
Voice cast revealed for Strip Law: A new Netflix adult animated comedy, Strip Mall, has revealed its voice cast, which includes Adam Scott, Janelle James, Keith David, Stephen Root, and Shannon Gisela. Scott plays Lincoln Gumb, an uptight lawyer in Las Vegas who teams up with a flashy local magician to break his streak of being too dull to win cases. Cullen Crawford, who worked on Star Trek: Lower Decks and Paradise PD, created the series, with animation provided by Titmouse.
Boyd Holbrook to co-star in Extraction spin-off series: Boyd Holbrook will co-star with Omar Sy in the upcoming spin-off to Netflix’s Extraction action movie series. The series is an 8-episode thriller that follows a mercenary who enters wartorn Libya to rescue hostages. Sy plays the mercenary, while Holbrook will be Extraction team leader David Ibarra.
NBCUniversal retains Bourne license: NBCUniversal has secured the Bourne franchise rights, winning a massive auction after its initial deal with the Robert Ludlum estate expired. The new deal gives the studio exclusive rights to everything, except publishing, for the Bourne/Treadstone franchise in perpetuity. Universal has released five movies based on the Bourne franchise since 2002, along with a USA TV series, Treadstone, as well as video games and “The Bourne Stuntacular” stunt show at Universal Studios Orlando.
Craig Mazin executive producing Blackout Room: The Last of Us executive producer Craig Mazin is tackling another project at HBO, Blackout Room. Created by Edson Oda, the series is set in a near future world where everyone is streamed 24/7 but, somehow, a woman’s son disappears. Oda previously directed the film Nine Days and will write, produce, and direct Blackout Room.
Shrek 5 delayed: The next entry in the Shrek franchise has been pushed out from its original release date. Originally scheduled to release just before Christmas next year, Shrek 5 is now set for June 30, 2027. Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy are all returning, joined by Zendaya as a new addition to the voice cast. Little is known about the plot except that Zendaya is voicing Shrek and Fiona’s daughter.
Channing Tatum and Rebecca Wang join Demon Slayer dub cast: Channing Tatum and Rebecca Wang will join the established English dub voice cast for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle. Tatum will be voicing Keizo, while Wang is voicing Koyuki. The anime film will be released in the US on Crunchyroll on September 12th.
Rambo prequel series finds a new Rambo: Millenium Media is developing a prequel film for the Rambo series, and Noah Centineo has been cast in the role of the young John Rambo. Jalmari Helander, the director of Sisu, is directing the film, which will follow Rambo during the Vietnam War. Shooting is looking to start next year in Thailand. Stallone is aware of the project but has no involvement.
One Piece renewed for a third season: Netflix’s hit live-action anime adaptation One Piece has been given an early Season 3 renewal. The second season won’t arrive on the streaming service until next year, but the show was given the early renewal, announced on “One Piece Day” in Japan. Season 3 will begin shooting later this year in Cape Town, South Africa.
