Released as the third single off Placebo’s second album, Without You I’m Nothing, “Every You Every Me” was also included on the soundtrack for 1999’s Cruel Intentions. “Bitter Sweet Symphony” was probably the biggest song off the Cruel Intentions soundtrack, but “Every You Every Me” was the first song heard during the opening scene. The song was released as a single in January 1999, with the Cruel Intentions soundtrack arriving in March. The song was a hit in the band’s native UK, reaching #11 on the charts and being certified gold. The Cruel Intentions soundtrack reached #60 on the Billboard Hot 200 albums chart and was certified gold in the US with 500,000 copies sold. There are actually three versions of the music video for the song, one with and one without clips from Cruel Intentions. A third version was filmed but wouldn’t be officially released until 2016 to promote the band’s A Place for Us to Dream compilation album. You can check out the Cruel Intentions version below.
