Nintendo is bringing back one of its most infamous flops with Virtual Boy on Switch and Switch 2. Starting February 17, 2026, games from the Virtual Boy library will join the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service for players in the U.S. and Canada. The direct segment highlighted Mario Tennis, Galactic Pinball, and Teleroboxer, but it appears that every Virtual Boy game (minus Waterworld for most likely licensing reasons) will eventually hit the service.
To play them, Nintendo is releasing two accessories: a replica Virtual Boy headset and a cheaper cardboard model, similar to what they released with the Nintendo Labo kits, and both are sold through the My Nintendo Store. Pairing one of these with an active Expansion Pack subscription unlocks the library of 3D titles that initially made the Virtual Boy a quirky piece of Nintendo history.
The Virtual Boy has long been remembered as a bold misstep, but this rerelease gives fans a chance to experience its bizarre red-and-black 3D worlds in a new way. Whether you opt for the premium replica or the budget cardboard add-on, you’ll finally get to see what all the fuss (and eye strain) was about, grab your eye drops, and plan your breaks now.
