New Tyrese Gibson/Danny Trejo action movie gets a release date: A new action movie, The Wrecker, featuring Tyrese Gibson and Danny Trejo, has gotten a release date of Halloween, October 31st. Harvey Keitel, Mena Suvari, Chad Michael Collins, and Niko Foster co-star, with Foster in the lead role of Tony, a former Marine turned mechanic who has to use his tactical combat training when his brother gets on the wrong side of some dangerous people.
Foundation renewed for a fourth season: AppleTV+ has renewed its sci-fi series Foundation for a fourth season. The series is loosely based on Issac Asimov’s book series and follows the Cleonic Dynasty, which rules the galaxy, and the Foundation, which has predicted the fall of the Dynasty and works to preserve humanity’s knowledge and culture before the collapse. Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lou Llobell, and Leah Harvey star in the series. Season 3 premiered in July.
Jawbone TV adaptation in development: Horror novel Jawbone, written by Monica Ojeda, is being developed into a TV series with Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna, and Nick Antosca producing. The novel follows friends Fernanda and Annelise, who are as close as sisters. Somehow, Fernanda finds herself held captive by one of her teachers in a deserted cabin and estranged from Annelise.
Joel Kinnaman starring in crime series Bishop: Joel Kinnaman has been cast as the lead in a new Prime Video crime drama series, Bishop. Kinnaman plays detective Bishop Graves, who is tracking a killer that is targetting the wealthy citizens of San Fransisco. Little Marvin and Tony Saltzman are the co-creators of the series.
Dark Descent getting a film adaptation: Video game Dark Descent is the latest gaming property to get an adaptation, with a film version now in development. Created by Vincent Livings and published by Glowstick Entertainment, the game sees players navigating horrific mazes where monsters are around every corner. Adrian Speckert and Cory Todd Hughes are writing the screenplay for production company So It Goes Entertainment, which most recently produced Wolf Creek: Legacy.
Charlie Brooker developing a detective series for Netflix: Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker is developing a new series for Netflix, an untitled detective/crime series. Georgina Campbell, Lena Headey, and Paddy Considine will star in the series, which follows a detective from Bleakford who travels to London to track down a ritualistic serial killer. The official plot description has some phrasing that suggests this will potentially be more satirical and humorous than a typically bleak, grim serial killer series. Brooker previously made a spoof crime series called A Touch of Cloth for Sky in 2011.
The Conjuring TV series in development: Hot off the massive opening weekend of The Conjuring: Last Rites, HBO Max is developing a TV series adaptation of the horror franchise. A series has actually been in development since 2023, but this week, a significant step occurred with Nancy Won, who previously worked on Tiny Beautiful Things, being named showrunner. Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires, who worked on Agatha All Along and WandaVision, were also hired as writers for the series.
David F. Sandberg is directing a new Amityville Horror: While there have been endless trash movies putting Amityville in the title on streamers like Tubi, Amazon, and MGM has hired David F. Sandberg to direct a “reimagining” of the original horror classic. Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing, who wrote The Conjuring: Last Rites, are writing the movie. Sandberg most recently directed Until Dawn for Sony this year.
The Last Witch Hunter sequel is in development: After a 10-year wait, Vin Diesel will return as Kaulder in a sequel to The Last Witch Hunter, with Diesel and Michael Caine reprising their roles. The original movie made $130 million in 2015 and has recently been a massive hit on Netflix, ranking in the top 5 most-watched films on the platform.
Hannah John-Kamen joins One Second After: Coming off Thunderbolts* this year, Hannah John-Kamen will join Josh Holloway for the upcoming disaster thriller One Second After. Holloway plays John Matherson, a college professor and former soldier who has to protect his community after an EMP attack devastates the country. John-Kamen plays Makalya, a nurse stranded in John’s town following the attack. Stunt co-ordinator and second unit veteran Scott Rogers, who worked on John Wick: Chapter 4 and Tron: Ares, is directing the film, and J. Michael Straczynski wrote the script.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie announced: During its most recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed that the next Super Mario movie will officially be The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and showcased a teaser video. Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Anya Taylor-Joy, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson will all reprise their roles, with new additions being announced in the near future. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are returning to direct after directing The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The film has a release date of April 3rd, 2026.
