Ridiculousness canceled at MTV: After 14 years and 46 seasons, Ridiculousness has been canceled at MTV. Hosted by Rob Dyrdek, the show highlighted comedic internet clips. At certain points, 113 hours of MTV’s weekly programming were Ridiculousness reruns. New episodes shot as part of Season 46 will air in 2026, and the series will continue to air reruns on MTV. Additionally, select seasons will be available on Paramount+. Dyrdek was getting paid $32.5 million per year for the series.
Charlize Theron starring in thriller Tyrant: Charlize Theron is in talks to star and produce a new thriller from Amazon MGM Studios, Tyrant. The only plot details are that it is set in the world of New York City’s high-end culinary industry. Another leading female role is looking to be cast. David Weil wrote the script and is directing the film.
Hulu orders Southern Basterds adaptation: Hulu has ordered a series based on the Image Comics series Southern Basterds. The comic, created by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour, follows a military vet who heads to Alabama in search of her estranged father. What she finds instead is a web of organized crime being run by “the winningest high school football coach in the South.” Bill Dubuque and Nia DaCosta are the executive producers behind the series.
King of the Hill renewed for two more seasons: Speaking of Hulu, the streamer also renewed the King of the Hill revival for two more seasons, taking the series into seasons 16 and 17. Season 14 debuted this year to revive the beloved series, earning strong critical acclaim and ranking as one of the top-five series on the Nielsen charts. Season 15 will debut next year on Hulu/Disney+.
Conjuring prequel movie in development: Coming off the massive box office of The Conjuring: Last Rites, a prequel series to the franchise is in development. Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, who wrote several entries in the franchise, including Last Rites, are writing the screenplay, and Rodrigue Huart is set to direct. While not officially confirmed, it appears that two younger actors will take over the roles of Ed and Lorraine Warren, as the movie focuses on them earlier in their careers as paranormal investigators. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga have played the roles since the original Conjuring film directed by James Wan.
Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg teaming up for Call of Duty: Paramount has tasked Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg to co-write the screenplay for their potentially massive Call of Duty film, with Berg also set to direct. It’s not yet clear what part of the gaming juggernaut the movie will focus on, but Modern Warfare seems like the safest bet.
Taylor Sheridan leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal: Speaking of Sheridan, Paramount got a bomb dropped on them when Sheridan, who has been behind most of the biggest hits on Paramount+, including Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness, and Landman, is moving to NBCUniversal in 2029 as part of a five-year deal to develop movies and TV series. The deal could net Sheridan up to $1 billion, significantly more than his current $200 million deal at Paramount. Sheridan will transition to NBCUniversal on January 1st, 2029, following the expiration of his current contract with Paramount.
Hello Kitty movie coming in 2028: The massively popular global icon Hello Kitty will make her cinematic debut in 2028 with a live-action/animated hybrid film, set to arrive on July 21st, 2028. New Line and Warner Bros. Animation are behind the film. This is the first time that Sanrio has granted the rights to Hello Kitty for a film adaptation.
Doug Liman making rival Road House sequel: Continuing his war against Amazon, Doug Liman, who directed the first Road House reboot with Jake Gyllenhaal, is preparing his own Road House movie as Amazon works on a sequel to the reboot. Due to a legal battle over the franchise’s ownership, Liman approached the original film’s screenwriter, R. Lance Hill, and acquired the rights to a sequel from him. Meanwhile, Amazon acquired the rights when it purchased MGM. Liman’s movie will be called Road House: Dylan and will be a sequel to the 1989 classic. Liman was furious at Amazon when Road House was not given a theatrical release and instead went straight to Prime Video.
Thriller Raven finds trio of stars: Upcoming thriller Raven has found its trio of stars with Anthony Mackie, Pablo Schreiber, and Ben Foster. The movie “follows Fay Darrow (Schreiber), a former Detroit cop turned hitman for the New Jersey mob, who is ready to walk away from a life of violence. But when his final job goes sideways, a volatile mob underling with something to prove (Mackie) and a ruthless enforcer known as the Taxman (Foster) are sent to kill him.” Ron Livingston and Hassie Harrison are also set to star. Tom Sierchio wrote and will direct the film.
Mia Goth, Dan Stevens, and Zach Galifinakis join Hey Bear: Best known for her horror roles, Mia Goth will star in the revenge comedy Hey Bear, from Portlandia creator Jonathan Krisel. Goth plays Claire, whose husband Gregory (Dan Stevens) is a bear researcher. When he is attacked and killed by a grizzly named Mr. Cranky, Claire teams up with a socially awkward park ranger to track down Mr. Cranky and get her revenge. The movie will be Krisel’s directorial debut.
Osgood Perkins finds cast for next movie: Osgood Perkins has been cranking out films, with The Monkey and Keeper released this year, and he has cast his next film, The Young People. Brendan Hines, Tatiana Maslany, Johnny Knoxville and Heather Graham will join Lola Tung and Nico Parker but plot details have not been revealed. Perkins wrote the script and directed, and Neon will distribute the film, as they have with all of Perkins’ recent films.
New Buck Rogers finds a writer: Acquiring the rights to Buck Rogers five years ago, Legendary has finally found a screenwriter for the new film adaptation of the sci-fi hero. Zeb Wells, who most recently co-wrote Deadpool & Wolverine, is writing the script. Legendary is looking to create a transmedia franchise with Buck Rogers, including a film, a live-action TV series, and an anime-inspired series.
Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie reuniting for Viva La Madness: Long time collaborators Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie are reuniting for a new action thriller called Viva La Madness. While the plot is being kept secret, it is inspired by the novel by J.J. Connelly, which was a sequel to his book Layer Cake. Ritchie’s movie will not have any ties to Layer Cake, which was adapted into a 2004 movie starring Daniel Craig. This will be the sixth film between Statham and Ritchie.
Last Flight Out adaptation coming to Apple: Apple is developing a film adaptation of the graphic novel Last Flight Out. The comic was created by Marc Guggenheim and Eduardo Ferigato and follows a father and daughter trying to reconcile at the end of the world. Extraction director Sam Hargrave is set to direct the film, and Guggenheim will adapt his own work for the script.
David Gordon Green directing Supermax: David Gordon Green has signed on to direct the thriller Supermax for Miramax. Miramax won the script in a bidding war and fast-tracked the film into production. Most plot details have not been revealed, but it will follow two FBI agents who are sent to investigate a murder in the world’s most secure prison. Green is coming off The Exorcist: Believer and is currently working on Scarpetta for Amazon, based on a series by author Patricia Cromwell.
Only Murders in the Building renewed for a sixth season: The killing will continue for another season, as Only Murders in the Building has been renewed for a sixth season by Hulu. The new season will send the trio of Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Selena Gomez to London to find out what happened to a new murder victim, who was revealed in the final episode of Season 5. Season 6 will consist of 10 episodes.
Backyard Baseball getting its first adapation: The recently revived kids sports video game franchise Backyard Baseball is getting its first animated adaptation. Playground Productions is developing an animated special with Tiffany Haddish starring as Keisha Phillips and Arturo Castro as (the GOAT) Pablo Sanchez. Ego Nwodim, Donald Faison, Chris Mintz-Plasse, Adam Pally, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Ashleigh Crystal Hairson will also co-star.
Bad Monkey co-stars return for Season 2: Two regulars from Season 1 will return to join Vince Vaughn in the second season of Bad Monkey on Apple TV. Natalie Martinez will return as Rosa, while Charlotte Lawrence will return as Claudia. John Ortiz was previously reported to be back and upgraded to a series regular for Season 2. John Malkovich, Yvonne Strahovski, Zavior Phillips, and Nate Jackson will join the series in Season 2. The first season was based on the Carl Hiaasen novel of the same name, but Season 2 will be an original story for the TV series.
One Piece gets a Season 2 release date: Netflix has set a date for the return of their popular anime adaptation One Piece, with the Straw Hats coming back on March 10th, 2026. The new season finds the pirate crew known as the Straw Hats heading to the Grand Line, a legendary stretch of the sea where they are searching for the world’s greatest treasure.
Cast set for Only What We Carry: Drama film Only What We Carry has revealed its main cast as filming wrapped in France. Simon Pegg, Sofia Boutella, Quentin Tarantino, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Liam Hellmann, and Lizzy McAlpine will star in the film, which is described as “a meditation on love, loss, and the quiet courage it takes to move forward.” This will be Tarantino’s most significant acting role since From Dusk Till Dawn back in 1996.
Supernatural thriller Poor Boy finds cast: Upcoming supernatural thriller Poor Boy has discovered its trio of stars with Guy Pearce, Teresa Palmer, and Ann Dowd. The plot is described as “After a near fatal accident on his seventh birthday, a boy awakens from his coma, only to claim to be the reincarnation of a man who died seven years ago. As the boy’s parents and the family of the deceased man wrestle with suspicion and grief, they are faced with two impossible alternatives – are they dealing with a genuine rebirth or a vengeful ghost?” Jeffrey Walker will direct the movie, and Pearce will arrange the score, while also starring in the film.
Finding Frankie video game adaptation in development: Horror game Finding Frankie is being adapted into a feature film by Sean Robins, who produced the recent Mortal Kombat films, and directed by Steven C. Miller. The game is “a survival-horror adventure set within the twisted, neon-lit world of Henry Hotline, Frankie, and Deputy Duck, three of the game’s most iconic characters,” and the movie is being described as a mix of Five Nights at Freddy’s and Squid Game.
Florian Munteanu joins Painter: Upcoming action movie Painter has added another cast member with Florian Munteanu joining in an unknown role. Amber Midthunder and Walton Goggins were cast, with Midthunder playing a highly trained woman using her skills to rescue her kidnapped father, played by Goggins. Stunt coordinator Garrett Warren makes his directorial debut with John Wick’s Derek Kolstad writing the script and producing along with James Cameron as an executive producer.
Josh Hartnett joins All Day & All Night: Josh Hartnett has signed on to star in the upcoming action thriller All Day & All Night. Directed by Tommy Wirkola, who most recently directed Violent Night, the movie follows Hartnett as a bank robber who, along with his crew, stumble onto the set of a failing reality show will trying to escape when a heist goes bad.
