One of the best episodes of the legendary Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Final Sacrifice, introduced fans to Canada’s greatest action hero, Zap Rowsdower (Bruce J. Mitchell), and you can watch it in the latest Everything Action Theater. The Final Sacrifice originated as a student project by director Tjardus Greidanus, a freshman at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. With a budget of $1,500 CAD and utilizing school-provided cameras, Greidanus filmed the movie primarily in the wilderness of Alberta. Christian Malcolm, who plays the main character Troy McGregor, was a fellow student and co-wrote the script with Greidanus. Greidanus would later become a director of making-of documentaries, including several for Michael Mann. The movie was released on VHS and Laserdisc as Quest for the Lost City, and it faded into obscurity until MST3K made it a cult classic. The movie was the 10th episode of MST3K’s ninth season and brought us immortal jokes, such as “I wonder if there’s beer on the sun?” You can watch the entire MST3K episode below, thanks to the show’s official YouTube channel.
