It’s a New Year, and what better way to start 2026 than by watching the cult 80s classic Maniac Cop in Everything Action Theater? Written and produced by Larry Cohen and directed by William Lustig, Maniac Cop followed Robert Z’Dar’s Matt Cordell, an NYPD police officer who was wrongfully imprisoned and “killed” in prison. Surviving, he becomes a brutal killer who goes on a killing spree against the citizens he was previously assigned to protect. Bruce Campbell co-stars as Jack W. Forrest Jr., who at first seems like the main suspect in the “Maniac Cop” killings. Genre favorites Tom Atkins and Richard Roundtree also appear in the movie. The movie spawned two sequels, with Z’Dar returning as Cordell, who becomes an undead, zombie-like slasher villain, and Robert Davi taking over as the protagonist from Campbell.
