Black Mirror renewed for an eighth season: Netflix has renewed the sci-fi anthology series Black Mirror for an eighth season. Season 7 was released last year and received praise for most of its episodes, earning Golden Globe nominations for Best Television Limited Series, Anthology or TV Movie and acting nods for Rashida Jones and Paul Giamatti.
Live-action Tangled finds main cast: Disney’s live-action version of Tangled has found its main cast, with Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider. Kathryn Hahn is in talks to play the villainous Mother Gothel. Michael Gracey, who directed The Greatest Showman, is directing the movie.
Jackass 5 announced for this year: The Jackass crew is returning to theaters with a fifth movie in the franchise, scheduled for June 26th this summer. The last film, Jackass Forever, came out four years ago.
New Nick Kroll comedy series coming to Netflix: Nick Kroll has a new live-action comedy series coming to Netflix following the success of Big Mouth and its spin-off, Human Resources. The new series is A Hundred Percent and is about “a group of friends working inside the Thought Leader industrial complex. Their books, podcasts and morning routines might help us live our lives more perfectly, but away from the screens and mics, they are most definitely far from perfect.” Kroll will co-star alongside Sam Richardson, Vanessa Bayer, and Jason Mantzoukas.
The Lowdown renewed for Season 2: The Ethan Hawke-led FX series will return for another season after its renewal this week. Hawke plays Lee Raybon, a self-styled “Truthstorian”, who pursues stories of corruption in his native Tulsa, OK. Season 1 found him investigating the powerful Washburn family after a suspicious suicide occurred. Sterlin Harjo created the series.
Cold Zero adaptation coming to Netflix: Nic Pizzolatto and Peter Berg are teaming up to bring an adaptation of Brad Thor’s novel Cold Zero to Netflix. The book is scheduled for release in February this year and is about a cutting-edge airliner that crash-lands at the North Pole. While the passengers struggle to survive, none of them know that the plane was carrying advanced technology that all the major world powers are racing to recover. Pizzolatto is writing the script while Berg is producing the movie.
Sebastian Stan is in talks for The Batman Part II: Sebastian Stan is crossing company lines and is in talks to join the cast of The Batman Part II. The role he’s negotiating for has not been disclosed. Robert Pattinson returns to star as Bruce Wayne/Batman, while Scarlett Johansson co-stars. Matt Reeves wrote and directs the movie, which is expected to begin production this spring for a release in October 2027.
The Housemaid sequel is in development: Becoming a sleeper hit over the holidays, The Housemaid is getting a sequel, with Paul Feig returning to direct and Sydney Sweeney returning to star. The sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, is based on the second book in the series by Freida McFadden. The film has grossed over $133 million worldwide since its release.
Tomb Raider series reveals cast: Amazon has revealed the cast for its upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series that will star Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie, Bill Paterson, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, and August Wittgenstein are all officially confirmed to be in the cast. Phoebe Waller-Bridge created the series and will serve as an executive producer and showrunner.
Mayor of Kingstown gets a fifth and final season: One of Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ series is coming to an end with Mayor of Kingstown getting a fifth and final season. The fifth season will be an eight-episode run to wrap up the story of Jeremy Renner’s Mike McLusky, who tries to keep the peace between the cops and criminals in the fictional town of Kingstown. Despite a strong start and critical acclaim, the series has not achieved the same ratings as other Sheridan shows, such as Tulsa King or Landman.
