Here’s all the movie and TV news you need to know from the past week, it’s the News Shotgun.

Warner Bros. accepts Paramount/Skydance’s bid: Netflix has bowed out of the bidding war for Warner Bros. Discovery, refusing to match Paramount’s $31-a-share offer. Co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters said the price no longer made financial sense, calling the deal a “nice to have,” not a must. After months of back-and-forth — including hostile bids and auction drama — Paramount now has the inside track, pending shareholder and regulatory approval.
Austin Butler starring as Lance Armstrong in new movie: Apple has won a bidding war for the rights to a new film about Lance Armstrong, with Austin Butler set to star as the disgraced pro cyclist. Edward Berger, coming off Conclave and Ballad of a Small Player, is directing with Zach Baylin, who wrote King Richard, writing the script. The movie will cover the life and career of Armstrong, from winning the Tour de France to being forced to leave the sport after admitting to blood doping.
Jonathan Levine is adapting Horrorstör: The Grady Hendrix horror novel will be adapted into a film. The director of 50/50 and Longshot signed on to direct this week, and he also wrote the latest draft of the film, working off one written by Hendrix. The book is set in an IKEA-esque store called Orsk, where strange supernatural occurrences are happening. The store manager convinces some employees to stay overnight to figure out what exactly is going on.
Molly Ringwald appearing on Yellowjackets: 80s star Molly Ringwald will recur on the fourth and final season of Yellowjackets on Showtime, playing Van’s (Lauren Ambrose/Liv Hewson) mom. It’s not clear whether she will be in the show’s present-day timeline or in its 90s-set flashback period. The show follows a girls’ soccer team who are involved in a plane crash in the remote wilderness and their battle to survive the elements and each other. The show flashes between the 90s and the high school characters and then 25 years later, following the survivors of the crash as adults.
Astronaut Down comic getting an adaptation: The AfterShock Comics title Astronaut Down is getting a film adaptation from Mr. Robot’s Sam Esmail and his Esmail Corp. F. Scott Frazier, who directed xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, is directing the film. The comic, written by James Patrick and illustrated by Rubine, follows an astronaut sent on a mission into alternate realities to save Earth from a devastating crisis.
Samuel L. Jackson’s Tulsa King spin-off gets a new title: Introduced in the most recent season of Tulsa King, Samuel L. Jackson’s spin-off has gotten a new title, Frisco King.  Jackson plays Russell Lee Washington Jr., who befriended Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) in prison and is a veteran hitman. In his own show, inspired by what Dwight built in Tulsa, he heads to Frisco, TX, to try and do something similar. The series was originally called NOLA King and was going to be set in New Orleans. The show will still briefly visit the Big Easy but is now mostly set in Texas. Taylor Sheridan is writing every episode of the show, which will consist of 8 episodes in the first season.
First look at Kratos and Atreus in God of War:

Ed Skrein cast as Baldur in God of War: Along with the first look photo above, Ed Skrein also became the latest cast member for the upcoming Amazon adaptation of God of War.  Skrein is playing Baldur, the main antagonist of the 2018 video game, who is cursed with the inability to feel pleasure or pain and was made invulnerable by his mother, Freya, via a spell. He has an insatiable bloodlust and is obsessed with finding a worthy opponent who can make him finally feel anything.
RIP Robert Carradine: Actor Robert Carradine died this past week at age 71, taking his own life after decades struggling with bipolar disorder. Carradine was a member of the acting family that included David and Keith and was best known for his roles as Lewis Skolnick in the Revenge of the Nerds movies and Sam McGuire on Lizzie McGuire.  He also appeared in films like Mean Streets, Cannonball, The Big Red One, and Joyride.  Along with acting, he was an avid race car driver, reaching the Grand Prix level and racing for Team Lotus with fellow actor and race driver Paul Newman.
Tom Hanks playing Lincoln in upcoming movie: Tom Hanks will be playing Abraham Lincoln in an upcoming film based on the novel Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders. The film will be a mix of live-action and stop-motion animation, with Hanks appearing in live-action as Lincoln, who is grieving the loss of his son Willie. A chorus of ghosts struggles for Willie’s soul as his body is temporarily interred at Georgetown Cemetery.
Ryan Coogler’s X-Files reboot gets pilot order: Hulu has ordered a pilot for Ryan Coogler’s reboot of The X-Files.  Danielle Deadwyler was also revealed to be starring the project. Jennifer Yale, who was most recently involved in Peacock’s The Copenhagen Test, is set to serve as the series’s showrunner. Original X-Files creator Chris Carter is also on board as an executive producer.
