While Chris Pratt is the current version of Mario in theaters, for many 80s and 90s kids, Captain Lou Albano was the definitive Super Mario, and you can watch the entire first season of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show in the latest Everything Action Theater. Debuting in September 1989, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show drew on elements from the first two Super Mario games while also parodying pop culture, including Godzilla, and putting a Mario spin on various public-domain stories. Captain Lou and Danny Wells, who played Luigi, appeared in both the live-action segments and provided the character voices for the animated episodes. On Fridays, the show would air an episode of an animated series based on The Legend of Zelda.  Kicking off every episode with the “Mario Brothers Rap”, the show was one of the memorable and well loved of the various Mario shows. It was followed by The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 in 1990 and Super Mario World in 1991, but neither had the same impact as the first, especially since they didn’t include the ridiculous and endearing live-action segments. You can watch 8 hours of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! below via Jacko TV on YouTube.
