We discussed The Fifth Element on the most recent Everything Actioncast as it was back in theaters for a special Fathom event. One of the many unique elements of the movie is its soundtrack by composer Eric Serra, who also contributed the movie’s end credits song, “Little Light of Love.” Serra met director Luc Besson in the early 80s and has scored every movie he’s made, with the exception of Angel-A. Right before scoring The Fifth Element, Serra was hired to compose the score for Goldeneye, which got mixed reviews for being a more modern, avant-garde sound than many Bond fans were expecting. The album for The Fifth Element reached #99 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over 200,000 in France alone. For the music video of “Little Light of Love”, Serra performs in a desert environment (to tie into the opening and closing sequences in Egypt?) while clips from the movie are incorporated throughout.
