Jason Clarke in talks to join Heat 2: Jason Clarke is in talks to join the cast of Heat 2 in an undisclosed role. Michael Mann is returning to direct the sequel to his iconic crime epic Heat, based on the novel that Mann and Meg Gardiner wrote. Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale have also been in talks to star in the film.
Kerry Washington starring in What Remains for Hulu: Kerry Washington is starring and executive producing the upcoming Hulu thriller series What Remains. Based on the novel by Wendy Walker, Washington plays Detective Elise Sutton, who kills a man in the line of duty. Wracked with guilt, she seeks out the man that she saved through her actions, but discovers that he’s not what he seems. McG will direct the series.
Restored Jackass episodes debut on Paramount+: The restored Seasons 1-3 of Jackass debuted on Paramount+ this past week. The episodes had been re-cut, re-edited, and re-scored so that they no longer resembled the originally aired episodes. Johnny Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine, and Spike Jonze requested that the episodes be removed from Paramount+ late last year, and they were allowed to restore the episodes to their original form.
Sinners coming to Halloween Horror Nights: The first major announcement for Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights is a Sinners house at Universal Studios Hollywood. The attraction will take guests into Club Juke, where they will encounter Remmick and his vampire horde.
Kyle Gallner joins Brie Larson in Skeletons: Kyle Gallner will reunite with his Strange Darling director, JT Mollner, to co-star with Brie Larson in Skeletons. The movie is a creature horror movie where a young boy slowly discovers that his seemingly perfect parents are hiding what his mother’s true nature actually is. The movie is based on a short story by Philip Fracassi, and JJ Abrams is producing the film.
Radio Silence directing a Choose Your Own Adventure movie: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, aka Radio Silence, have signed on to direct a film based on the beloved Choose Your Own Adventure book series. The film is being written by Tom Bissell, who worked on Andor and The Disaster Artist. There are no plot details or information about how the movie would incorporate the book’s main mechanic of allowing the reader to make decisions that lead them down different paths through the book.
Skyward series adaptation in development: Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward is getting adapted into a TV series from Tomorrow Studios, the studio behind One Piece on Netflix. The novel depicts humanity trapped on a harsh planet under constant attack from hostile aliens. The protagonist, Spensa Nightshade, seeks to join the fighter pilot corps to defend humanity and redeem her disgraced father’s name. Sanderson will write the pilot, and Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, the producers behind Agents of SHIELD, will produce the series.
Rick and Morty movie finds a director: Rick and Morty is heading to the big screen, and series veteran Jacob Hair has signed on to direct the film. Hair has been with the series since 2019 and is currently the show’s supervising director. The film is in early development, and the series has been renewed through 12 seasons, with Season 9 debuting on Sunday.
Matt Damon in talks to star in the next Daniels movie: For their follow-up to Everything Everywhere All At Once, Oscar winners The Daniels have fellow Oscar winner Matt Damon in talks to star. There are no plot details, but the movie is set to shoot this summer after Damon finishes promoting The Odyssey. Ryan Gosling was originally in talks to star, but couldn’t due to scheduling conflicts.
Michael Bay directing Iran rescue mission movie: Michael Bay has signed on to direct a film based on the real-life rescue mission to save two downed pilots in Iran during Operation Epic Fury. An F-15E was shot down behind enemy lines in Iran, and a massive rescue operation resulted in the pilot and weapons system officer being recovered. Bay’s last film was Ambulance, but this seems similar to 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.
Quinta Brunson developing a Betty Boop film: Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson is developing and will star in a film based on Betty Boop. The film will follow the creation and evolution of the iconic character through the lens of her creator, Max Fleischer. Brunson partnered with Fleischer’s grandson, Mark Fleischer, for the film.
Tom Hardy fired from Mobland for Season 3: Mobland star Tom Hardy has been fired from the series and will not appear in the show’s third season, if it happens. He allegedly had issues with the executive producer, Jez Butterworth, and others. Production on the second season just recently wrapped, and it should arrive on Paramount+ later this year.
Conan the Barbarian sequel shooting next year: The long-awaited King Conan, the third Conan film to star Arnold Schwarzenegger, will begin shooting next year, according to the man himself. Arnold was celebrating the 44th anniversary of the first film on the website TheArnoldFans and said he would begin shooting King Conan with Christopher McQuarrie in 2027. McQuarrie signed on to direct and write the movie. King Conan finds Conan the Barbarian after 40 years on the throne, having to fend off would-be usurpers who want to kill him and take the throne for themselves.
South Park Season 29 gets release date: South Park will return in the fall on Comedy Central and Paramount+, with a September 16th release date. The previous “season” of South Park was actually officially broken up into two seasons of five episodes each, but both followed the residents of South Park as they had to deal with the insanity of Donald Trump and his rogue’s gallery, including JD Vance, Pete Hegseth, and Kristi Noem, and Trump’s relationship with Satan, who becomes pregnant with the Antichrist.
Stallone producing series adaptation of The Fourth Monkey books: Stallone’s Balboa Productions has signed on to produce a series adaptation of the crime novel series 4MK by J.D. Barker. The series follows Chicago detective Sam Porter as he tries to catch the elusive and deadly “Fourth Monkey Killer”, a serial killer who removes the eyes, ears, and tongues of his victims and has a twisted code of judgment for who he targets. Channing Powell, a producer on The Walking Dead franchise, has signed on to the series along with Balboa Productions.
Delphi reveals main cast: A spin-off from the Creed/Rocky series, Delphi has found its main cast. Benji Santiago, Juan Castano, Demián Bichir, André Holland, Andre Royo, Sofia Black-D’Elia, Victoria Vourkoutiotis, and Wood Harris will star in the boxing drama, which is set in an elite academy where a group of boxers try to rise to the top of the sport. Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society is producing the series for Amazon.
Scooby-Doo anime series coming to Tubi: Scooby-Doo is getting its first anime series with Yokoso Scooby-Doo! but some familiar voices have joined the cast. Matthew Lillard and Frank Welker will reprise their roles as Shaggy and Scooby, and the series finds the duo visiting Japan, where they accidentally unleash hundreds of mythical monsters. To stop the monsters, Shaggy and Scooby team up with Scooby’s uncle, Daisuke-Doo, and new friends Yume and Takumi. The series will stream exclusively on Tubi in North America, while Cartoon Network will air it internationally.
Very Young Frankenstein gets a series order: FX has picked up Very Young Frankenstein with a series order. The series was created by the What We Do in the Shadows trio of Stefani Robinson, Taika Waititi, and Garrett Basch and is based on Mel Brooks’ classic 1974 comedy movie Young Frankenstein. Zach Galifianakis, Dolly Wells, Spencer House, Nikki Crawford, Kumail Nanjiani, and Cary Elwes will star.
RIP Tom Kane: Voice acting legend Tom Kane passed away this past week at age 64. Kane has 275 acting credits and began professional voice acting at age 15. He had a huge impact on the animated Star Wars universe, voicing Yoda, Boba Fett, C-3PO, Qui-Gon Jinn, and more for The Clone Wars and other projects. He was also known for his roles as Professor Utonium on The Powerpuff Girls and Darwin on The Wild Thornberrys.
